PDO was originally an absorbable suture material used to close surgical wounds. Because it has been used inside the body for so long, there's a solid track record of safety data behind it, which is part of why this thread found a home in skin treatments.
There's a reason the strands are woven into a net rather than left as a single thread. When multiple strands cross in different directions, the area that gets stimulated is larger, and that translates into more new collagen being produced.
The treatment is done with a cannula (a thin, blunt-tipped tube that causes less tissue damage than a needle) to guide the threads under the skin in multiple directions. Once you're actually considering the treatment, how much it hurts and how long it takes are probably the bigger questions.
Before the procedure, the area is numbed first with an anesthetic cream or a local anesthetic injection. As a result, what you feel while the threads go in is described as more of a pressing or mild tugging sensation than a sharp sting.
The treatment time varies with the number of threads and the size of the area, but it generally wraps up in about 20 to 40 minutes. Including the numbing step, your total time at the clinic runs a bit longer than that.
Right after the procedure, some swelling or light bruising can appear along the thread's path. Because it's done with a cannula, bruising tends to be milder than with needle-based procedures, but the extent varies from person to person depending on blood vessel placement and skin condition.
What Determines How Long Results Last
How long Ultracol's effects last isn't determined by any single factor. Several elements are reported to work together.

How Should You Care for Your Skin Afterward?
The key to aftercare is simply not interfering with the collagen-building process.

Ultracol is said to suit people whose main concern is skin that's grown thin and lost elasticity overall, more than someone whose jawline is sagging and wants an immediate lift. It's also used on localized areas where both volume and elasticity are lacking, like fine lines around the eyes, hollowed cheeks, or around the nasolabial folds.
It's sometimes combined with lifting threads. Lifting threads define an immediate line, while a regenerative thread like Ultracol gradually rebuilds the elasticity of the skin itself underneath.
On the other hand, if sagging itself is the more noticeable issue, in areas like the jawline or neck, and you want a change you can see right away, a cogged lifting thread is typically considered before Ultracol. Since the two treatments serve different purposes, it helps to first figure out whether your main concern is sagging or a loss of elasticity.
That said, the treatment area, thread type, and number of strands all depend on your skin condition, so the safer approach is to have your skin thickness and degree of sagging assessed during a consultation first.
